PEOPLE in Trowbridge have been invited to have their say on the town’s bid for £12 million from the Government’s £675m Future High Streets Fund.

The central government funding scheme is aimed at supporting local projects which make high streets and town centres fit for the future.

Projects in Trowbridge include plans for new cycleways, pedestrian areas and a new town square to link up parts of the town centre and to revitalise the old Town Hall.

Sandra Perez is a member of the Inner Circle Consulting team, which has been appointed to develop a business case to support Trowbridge’s bid to the fund.

She said: “Later this month and into July, we will be finalising the proposals, which will hopefully result in funding for the selected projects in Trowbridge town centre."

Trowbridge's application for funds recognised a range of opportunities that could help transform the centre and focused on the main aspects of the town’s masterplan.

It will ensure the key assets of the river, parks, canal and historic buildings provide a range of quality spaces and environments, along with improving leisure and shopping opportunities.

The town’s bid includes resources to help improve traffic and to encourage walking and cycling by improving access, enhancements to Castle Place and the Town Hall, and an assessment of development potential around Court Street and Castle Street.

The hope is to make a contribution to the Town Hall Trust's plans to further develop the building for arts and community uses, including a new 550-seat capacity auditorium in The Great Hall.

One of the main priorities will be to encourage more people to use the community and arts events and activities offered at the Town Hall.
