A police expert has praised officers for the 'calm and controlled' response to the attacks and said the process of gathering evidence will be well underway.

Graeme Wettone told Sky News that police will be keeping an open mind as to the motivation for the incident.

He said:  "Evidential opportunities will be being looked at by police including any CCTV footage.

"Have they got potential evidence? They will be carrying out a very slow methodical search of the building.

Glasgow Times:

"Was he a guest, has he got a room, what was in his room, anything that was said or done prior to the attack.

"They will be keeping an open mind at the moment as to what has happened.

"It depends on the information they are receiving from the people in the building and from hotel staff. Was it located in just one room or did the suspect travel through the hotel?

"There's no real sense of urgency by police, they have clearly got this incident contained.

"It's very calm and controlled."
