Alzheimer's Support has delivered nearly 280 cream teas to clients across Wiltshire this week

The charity has held cream tea gatherings in community venues in previous years, but couldn’t do so this summer due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Instead, support workers across the county are taking the scones, jam and cream to their clients to enjoy in their own homes and gardens.

The scones were very generously provided by TESCO.

Sally Haddrell-Jenks, head of registered services at Alzheimer's Support, organized and coordinated the distribution of the cream teas and spent several weeks dreaming of scones, clotted cream and jam.

She said: “Cream teas are a big part of summer at Alzheimer’s Support and were determined that our clients wouldn’t miss out this year.

"I’m so proud of the whole Home Support team for stepping up to make special things happen for our clients and very grateful to TESCO who so kindly provided the scones.”

There are more than 7,000 people living with dementia in the Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group area. Of these, 66 per cent have a diagnosis.

The number of people living with dementia in Wiltshire is expected to rise by 44 per cent by 2021.

Alzheimer’s Support operates throughout Wiltshire to provide flexible services for people living at home with all types of dementia and their family carers.

Services include: award-winning daycare, support at home, carers’ groups, carer training, Music for the Mind singing groups, memory cafes, art groups, Movement for the Mind exercise groups, discussion groups, wildlife clubs and life story groups.
