FINDLAY Kinnie can’t hide his delight after being named ‘Student of the Year’ by a Glasgow theatre school alongside hundreds of other pupils.
The UK Theatre School presented the award to every student for showing “great resillience” during the pandemic lockdown.
Pupils have been sent their award certificates after the school’s principal and tutors decided that during lockdown they’d all shown “focus and dedication in the face of the pandemic crisis”.
UK Theatre School switched its performing arts training sessions to a programme of 140 online classes weekly during the government-imposed lockdown. As well as focusing on singing, dancing and acting lessons they students were also encouraged to attend other online sessions exploring different musicals and acting for radio.
Principal Lizanne Lambie Thomson said: “We felt each and every pupil showed great resilience, focus and dedication in the face of the pandemic crisis. Our senior students even staged a virtual cabaret showcase, singing and performing drama pieces, for an invited online audience of about 200 people.”
“The tutors were all so impressed at the amount of work the students continued to put into the classes and when considering the award, we thought every one of them deserved to be named our Student of the Year.”
