A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and money laundering following a warrant in Melksham.

Officers executed a warrant at an address in Littlejohn Avenue on Tuesday due to concerns about drug dealing.

They seized a quantity of Class B drugs, believed to be cannabis, cash, a number of mobile phones and drugs paraphernalia.

A 19-year-old man was then arrested at another address in Melksham on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs and money laundering.

He was taken into custody at Melksham Police Station, interviewed and released under investigation while police enquiries continue.

The warrant was executed by the Community Tasking Team, working alongside officer from the local community policing team.

Neighbourhood PC Lee Pelling, from the Trowbridge Area Community Policing Team, said: “We are committed to acting on intelligence about drugs activity and this warrant is a good example of how we can disrupt this criminality.

“The supply of any illegal drugs, including Class B drugs such as cannabis, can have negative consequences for the local community.

“Not only is cannabis often a gateway drug, leading to teenagers and young people moving on to harder drugs, but drug dealing of any kind brings with it associated anti-social behaviour and violence, which frustrates and angers people living in the area.

“We will continue to work hard to tackle drug dealing on all levels, targeting local dealers and cross-border county lines gangs alike.”

PC Pelling added: “We would always urge people to report their concerns about drug dealing to us.

“You can do this by calling 101, and we can deal with your reports sensitively and confidentially.”
