WARMINSTER Town Council has gone green by purchasing battery-powered electric power tools in line with its policies on combating climate change.
It has bought a strimmer, blower, hedge-cutter and chainsaw with associated batteries and chargers to enable the council’s park and open spaces team to carry out essential works ‘in house’.
Cllr Sue Fraser, chairman of the council’s environmental services committee said: “Once the initial investment has been made, the running cots are low as electricity is much cheaper than petrol.
“Maintenance costs are also low because the equipment does not have as many parts to maintain as the petrol alternatives.”
The council says the battery-powered tools offer additional benefits such as lower noise levels so there is less disturbance to others when they are being used.
"Not only are there zero carbon emissions when operating the tools, there are no fumes or unpleasant odours."
"They are also safer for the workforce as they have lower levels of vibrations that have been linked to some health problems.
"They are easy to turn on and off, have long run times and are safe and easy to use and store."
