A TROWBRIDGE driver is being held in custody in Melksham after a high-speed chase ended in his arrest in the Studley Green area.

Police said: “Shortly before 3pm yesterday a driver failed to stop for police in Pound Lane, Semington.

“The vehicle – a Ford Focus - made off towards Bradford on Avon and was seen to be driven dangerously with damage caused to the vehicle.

“A pursuit was authorised and the vehicle came to a stop following a low speed collision near the play park off Lambrok Road, where the driver fled the vehicle and attempted to make off on foot but was arrested.

“The man in his 20s, from Trowbridge, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop a vehicle when required to do so by an officer and dangerous driving.

"He remains in custody in Melksham for questioning."

Lambrok and Studley Green residents took to social media immediately after witnessing the chase.

One local said: “Watched the car speed straight past my street with police pursuing close behind,” while another said the car being chased had tyres missing.
