A Trowbridge resident has started a petition to stop McDonald’s building a new location meter from their house.

The fast-food giant has put in an application with the council to build a second Trowbridge branch in the supermarket car park, complete with a children’s play area, which will be open 24/7.

But this has been met with fierce opposition from residents who live nearby.

One resident, Carl Ivin-Maddox has started an online petition which calls on Wiltshire Council to look at other sites for the eatery.

The petition says: “There are already traffic issues getting into to Tesco and this will cause more environmental issues as a whole. Wiltshire council need to look at other sites for this.”

The petition has gathered 154 signatures of its 200 target.

Mr Ivin-Maddox, who lives close the proposed site and who set-up the change.org petition said that residents are very unhappy with the application.

One petition signatory, Heather Anderton wrote: “Tesco already gets congested as the entry slip lane is not long enough.

“Most importantly, the rubbish that will inevitably be strewn around will be hugely damaging to the environment. It will be right next door to Biss Meadow, a wildlife area.

“There are empty units within the town and a new development happening at Innox Mill which would be perfect.”
