Kington Langley Croquet Club have played their first, and probably only, match of the season, with a friendly Short Croquet match against Bristol.
With all South West Federation Leagues and National team competitions cancelled, this was a rare opportunity this year to get some competitive play. Short Croquet is a scaled down version of the normal game and is played on half-lawns with 75 minute time limits.
The day did not start well for Kington Langley, who found themselves 0-3 down after the first round of matches, and 2-5 after the second. The team of Richard Smith, Tim Lacy-Hulbert, Margaret Murray and Roderick Corrie then rallied and at one stage had drawn level at 6-6.
However the vital last round of matches was drawn and a narrow 7-8 defeat ensued. Many Kington Langley losses were by narrow margins. In fact two were lost on the golden hoop, when the games were tied after 75 minutes. So much so, that Kington Langley outscored Bristol 165-155 in hoop points, but it's game wins that count.
