IT’S been a bumper week for comments on some of our stories. Here is a brief round-up of who said what.

Pizza Express to close 73 branches:

Joy Restall: Really sad news

Vicky Tervit: Thank God! Devizes is not on the close list!

Claire Fletcher: I saw this.. heartbreaking.

29 cases of corona virus confirmed last week:

Gillian Clancy: Shut the pubs.

Malcolm Shipp: I can’t see any suggestion that pubs are responsible. It’s all been factories and distribution centres and not a single report locally of any outbreaks in pubs.

One-way system begins:

Nikki Turnnidge: Devizes could do with this in the little Brittox.

Gillian Clancy: Senseless.

Craig Bain: It’s half term and the traffic is already slower than normal time. We use a nursery in BoA and commute through daily. It’s making it very difficult.

Nick Krainc: The traffic queue to get over the bridge this morning at 9.30am stretched from Sainsbury’s in one direction and back up to the new ABD building in the other direction. I know, I was stuck in it.

Avoided BoA on my return. I guess many will do the same. Goodbye passing trade. What is the comparative risk of contracting Covid due to passing too close to someone on the bridge compared to, say, an asthma attack due to the fumes from queuing stationary traffic?

My uneducated guess would be the first one close to zero, the second one medium to high. I’m fascinated to find out how the council determined air quality will improve with the town centre full of idling cars and lorries.

Elaine Morris: I fully support a one-way system or even better a bypass.

Getting from one side of town to the other is a nightmare with traffic light on bridge.

I understand pedestrians have to social distance but surely you could make the footpath on bridge a one-way system. You walk over one side and back into town on the other.

It’s not rocket science to work that one out. Had we not had residents objecting to the footbridge that was proposed a few years ago we wouldn’t have such a problem.

Geoff Curtis: This is just another way to force the through traffic onto the already overcrowded, underfunded and under-planned A350.

Bath has closed the bridge for LGVs and will soon have a “congestion” tax. So the residents of Westbury will be forced into accepting the unwanted and ill-thought out eastern bypass.

It’s time we had a change in the council offices (local and county) councillors are supposed to work for the people not themselves!

Jo Collins: Ask the residents of BoA today and see if they are supportive!! I think it’s an overwhelming ‘NO’!

Priscilla Nield: It took us 20-plus minutes to get from Holt Road to traffic lights. A nightmare to be honest.

Helen Cosslett: This will only generate more traffic thru Staverton.

We have already had three burst water mains in a week due to heavy traffic, thanks Bradford!

Phil Sleep: Yep, there goes my commute to Corsham. I’ll just go Staverton way instead.

Pretty sure we have declared a climate crisis and Bradford was in a list of most polluted.

Alan Howard: Already is I’m having to drop loads due to traffic taking me too long to get to site.

Rachel Ahearne: Traffic is going to be a nightmare at the bridge lights.

Stuart Parfitt: Avoid BoA at all costs as horrendous traffic and also pollution levels have risen by over 10 per cent due to this crazy short-sighted decision.

Stuart Parfitt: The mayor of Bristol has announced that pollution levels have dropped in the city due to Covid but BoA can now announce that they are breaking that trend and decide to increase pollution levels to reduce chances of catching Covid so if the Covid doesn’t get you the dangers of pollution will get you or your next generation. Short-sighted fools.
