An appeal against a Wiltshire Council decision to refuse planning permission to build a house in Market Lavington has been thrown out.

Last year, Mrs C House applied to the council to build a detached house with works and paddock access at Glyndene, 8 Fiddington Hill.

Her application was rejected on the grounds that the proposed house would not fit in well with the ‘established built environment’ and would be unacceptably harmful and ‘overbearing impact’ to neighbouring homes.

Mrs House filed an appeal against this decision, as well as an application to reclaim costs from the council – both of which were dismissed.

In their report, the inspector wrote: “Overall, this development would not respect the established pattern of development within this area and would be a discordant and incongruous addition within its setting.”

While, they also noted the proposals would not harm the neighbour’s living conditions, they found that the proposal’s impact of the character and appearance of the area was unacceptable.
