THREE players at Devizes Town Football club have tested positive for coronavirus.

Club matches have been suspended for two weeks.

The team and management have been tested, but results are negative for them.

The club said that it made the decision to suspend fixtures after speaking to the Toolstation League, Wiltshire League and Wiltshire FA and with guidance from NHS England.

Town completed their pre-season schedule with a comfortable 4-0 over Marlborough last Saturday,

Club chairman Shaun Moffat said that two of the players had come back from a holiday in Portugal and tested positive, with a third player contracting it from them on their return.

"One of the players who didnt play had a cough on the Monday and went for a test, which proved positive.

"Only one of the players who tested positive played in the match but wasn't tested until the Monday when it came to light. The other was a reserve team player who was not due to play anyway. All three went into isolation on Tuesday.

"The third player had been socialising with the two who returned from Portugal.

"We now have a clean bill of health from Public Health England," he said. "But league guidelines say we must not play for two weeks.

"We had rigorous track and trace procedures in place, with supporters coming to the Marlborough match all being temperature checked. and we sent all our data to public health England. We have done everything by the book and it has worked.

"We are continuing to advise our players to act sensibly. And I am really pleased the individuals concerned acted so responsibly."
