A MAN in his 50s remains in a stable condition after being stabbed in Royal Wootton Bassett yesterday.

Two men were arrested following the lunchtime incident in Rylands Way and remain in custody.

The victim was rushed to Southmead Hospital with what police said were life-threatening injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses and have moved to reassure neighbours living in the area.

Det Sgt Scott Anger said:  "Our investigation is still on-going and so far we have received some good intelligence and information from the general public.

"However, we are still appealing for witnesses to this incident which took place in a built up residential area of the town.  If you heard or saw anything suspicious before, after or around this time  please contact us.  You may have been driving past and have dashcam footage - please check and if so get in touch.

"People will also notice a continued police presence in the area today as our enquiries continue."

Inspector Doug Downing, who is in charge of the Neighbourhood Policing Team for Royal Wootton Bassett, said: "I appreciate that an increased police presence in this part of town will cause some concern to those living in the area.

"However, I want to reassure residents that the officers are carrying out their enquiries as part of this investigation and that there are two people in custody.

"If anyone has any concerns please feel free to stop any of our officers in the area to speak to them.”

Anyone with any further information should call 101.
