WINNERS from the Marlborough LitFest Love Books competition have been announced from around 100 entries.
The competition invited participants to celebrate their love of reading by explaining their choice of favourite book, poem or play.
In the 13–16 age group category, the winner was Sophia Pauls, who wrote about The Storied Life of A.J Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. Judges said: ‘This piece was really engaging, and had great energy and passion, as well as wit.’
Winner in the 17–19 age group category was Isabel Lee, whose entry was Holes by Louis Sachar. The judges noted that this was a: “A creative and well-sustained piece... demonstrating the reader’s engagement in the work.”
In the 20+ age group category, the winner was Olivia Bignold-Jordan with Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
The judges said this was: ‘A courageous piece, with its own narrative arc in a small compass.’
