A Wiltshire MP is ‘strongly objecting’ to plans for the controversial incinerator in Westbury.

Dr Andrew Murrison has voiced his concerns over plans by Northacre Renewable Energy to change the proposed gasification plant on the edge of the town to an ‘old-style incinerator taking more waste, belching more carbon and particulates and increasing heavy traffic through the town’.

“Westbury didn’t lose the cement works chimney only to have another old-style industrial smokestack imposed on it,” he said.

Mr Murrison is urging residents to make their voices heard and comment on the application – the deadline for comments on the proposals is Tuesday, September 22.

Northacre Renewable Energy has been contacted for comment.

The proposals are due to be discussed by Trowbridge Town Council at its Full Council meeting tomorrow (September 15).
