Homeowners and landlords are being encouraged to apply for funding to pay for the costs of energy saving measures.

The new Green Homes Grant – which opens at the end of September – allows homeowners to get back up to two-thirds on energy saving measures – up to £5,000.

While lower income households could be entitled to as much as £10,000 to cover the cost.

Wiltshire Council said that homeowners can begin seeking quotes before the scheme launches, so businesses are also being encouraged to register their services under the scheme via the Trust Mark website.

Home improvements covered by the scheme include insulation of walls, floors and roofs, installation of double or triple glazing to replace single glazing and low-carbon heating.

These measures could help families save up to £600 a year on their energy bills.

Cllr Richard Clewer, cabinet member for climate change, said: "Investing in green initiatives is key to Wiltshire's and the national recovery.

“This scheme prepares us for the future, protects our environment and saves money for homeowners through long-term energy savings.

"Building back greener also helps to secure local jobs and supports the council in its ambition for Wiltshire to be carbon-neutral by 2030."
