A BRANCH cutting tool which could be potentially dangerous in the wrong hands was discovered during a litter pick in Trowbridge on Saturday (September 19).

It was found in an area by the brook just off Kingswood Chase in Studley Green by Cllr Tom Bazan, together with Cllr Antonio Piazza and two residents.

The team recovered five bags of rubbish from the area they cleared, including some hanging basket frames, parts of a car tyre and general detritus.

Cllr Bazan said: "I will use this as a message to parents, your children are at risk from serious injury playing near the brook, especially when sharp objects have been left behind.

"They need to know as well to look after the local area and not litter it. I also found an old West Wilts District Council “Clean It Up” sign, quite ironic that."

Cllr Piazza said: “Two children started playing with the branch cutting tool so I put on my teacher persona and they thankfully dropped it."

"It’s quite frightening that our children could discover stuff like this or worse when playing innocently.

"People need to dispose of sharp tools appropriately because one day a child is going to get seriously hurt.”

Resident Laurence Marshall added: “It was another productive day picking up litter on Studley Green but it highlights the need for more education on the impact of littering and to have more available bins on the estate to avoid the large amount of litter.”
