A DRIVER has been reported by Trowbridge police after being caught doing 69mph in a 40mph speed limit at Leap Gate.
Officers conducted speed enforcement patrols after complaints from local residents, some of whom have had pet cats killed by speeding motorists.
Police said: “Following numerous complaints of Speeding on Leap Gate, including instances where cats have sadly been run over, we have been conducting speed enforcement on the stretch of road.
“Members of our Special Constabulary have already caught one motorist doing 69mph through the 40mph stretch. That motorist has been reported to court.
“It might be a long straight but it's a residential area. Please drive carefully.”
The roads around Leap Gate have speed limits varying from 30mph to 50mph, particularly on the A361 from Trowbridge to Devizes.
