A Devizes community pharmacist has gone on hunger strike for five days, to keep global warming on the agenda.
Father of two Kelvin Sharman, 55, said the worsening environmental crisis and the fear for his children’s future prompted the action:
“I am hoping that the personal sacrifice of a five-day hunger strike will help to awaken people to the reality that the ecological and environmental crisis we are in is dire. Covid-19 is just one small indicator of what the future holds.
“In the last two years there have been ever increasing signs and symptoms of the effects of global heating and loss of biodiversity. “
“I am going on hunger strike from midnight Wednesday, September 30 to midnight Monday, October 5 to raise awareness of the urgent nature of the response required by the government and large institutions. “
He plans to lobby the cause outside Michelle Donelan’s office, and Barclays Bank in Chippenham on Friday, Saturday and Monday between 11am and 4pm.
