A YOUNG child was subjected to a five-year campaign of repeated sexual abuse involving rape and sex assault, a court heard.

During the alleged abuse the girl - who cannot be named for legal reasons - said she felt 'disgusting' and thought if she spoke out she would get 'told off.'

Phillip Lewis denies all of the charges against him and prosecutors said that he told police he was 'disgusted by the things being said about him.'

The 40-year-old of Foxcroft Drive, Carterton is charged with six counts alleging the sexual abuse of one child aged under 13.

He denies one count of rape, one of assault by penetration, three of sexual assault and one of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

His trial got under way at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

Outlining the case prosecutor Claire Robinson told jurors the sexual abuse all took place in the early 2010s in West Oxfordshire.

Detailing the string of allegations she said that Lewis would molest the girl on multiple occasions as well as 'simulate intercourse' with her.

She claimed that Lewis would perform a sex act in front of the child on numerous occasions and that he also orally raped her.

Jurors went on to watch a recorded police interview which the alleged victim gave.

In that interview she told officers that she was abused by Lewis on multiple occasions and went on to detail those incidents.

Describing what she claimed happened to her she said that the abuse made her feel 'disgusting.'

She said: "When you are young you are vulnerable so it becomes acceptable in a way.

"You think it's going to be fine but it's not fine."

The child went on: "You didn't really know what to do.

"If you told someone it's your fault, you are going to get told off and all the blame will be on you because you let it happen."

The alleged victim told officers that 'if I had someone doing it now I would want to kill that person so bad.'

She added: "You hear all the time because it's always in the news but you don't know what it feels like.

"It stresses me out and makes me mad, I can't believe how stupid I was to go with it."

Asked by police how often the alleged sexual abuse would take place she claimed it would happen 'a lot' and said the incidents were 'pretty frequent.'

After the allegations came to light, the court heard, Lewis was interviewed by police in March last year.

Prosecutors said that he denied all of the allegations to officers during his interview.

Ms Robinson added: "He said he was disgusted by the things being said about him."

Lewis denies all of the counts and the trial continues.
