Wiltshire have been put in the lowest category in the government's new three-tier coronavirus rules system.

Wiltshire is at the lowest risk according to the government’s new three-tier system.

This means pubs and restaurants have a curfew of 10pm and gatherings of more than six people are banned except for funerals and weddings.

Under the current social distancing rules only 15 people may attend weddings and wakes, whereas 30 may go to funerals.

The rate of infection in Wiltshire stands at 399 cases per 100,000 people, far below the England average of 935 (as of October 13).

Speaking on BBC Wiltshire this morning, leader of the council, Cllr Philip Whitehead said that the virus was 'under control locally'.

“We have to be conscious of it, but by no means should we massively change what we are doing because what we are doing has proved to be right so far," said Cllr Whitehead.

“We just have to make sure it doesn’t rise, take a few extra precautions, be careful and continue with the absolute basics.”

The number of positive coronavirus cases in the county is 1,995 (as of October 12), according to Public Health England figures.
