AN Indian restaurant is helping families to put food on the table this half term.

Ganges has been in the High Street in Royal Wootton Bassett for 27 years and after its owner Enam Chowdhury heard children might go hungry he wanted to do his bit to help.

This comes after the government voted against Labour's motion to extend free school meals over half term and Christmas, with 266 votes in favour and 322 against.

Enam said: "We're helping feed vulnerable children through this half term because they won't be getting free school meals during this holiday period.

"Anyone can call up and ask for some food to be cooked during lunchtime and either come to pick it up or I will deliver it.

"It feels good to do something for the community and help in this way. It's not much for us to do we just cook the food but it means a lot to the people who need it."

On their first day of giving out these lunches they fed more than 10 families in Royal Wootton Bassett.

The restaurant will be doing this every day until children return back to school.

And he plans to do the same for when Christmas comes around.

He said: "I've been doing similar things like this for the past decade with donating food to the Salvation Army and recently donating to NHS workers during lockdown.

"I want to continue to help these families who need it through this tough time."
