PLANS for a new £500,000 village hall at Berryfield have been given the go-ahead by Wiltshire Council.

The council's planners have approved plans submitted by BTA architects in Warminster for the community facility.

It means that the hall can now be developed following the completion of Bellway's Bowood View housing estate on the Semington Road.

Bellway has handed over the land so that the village hall can be built for the local community.

The planning decision was welcomed by Cllr Richard Wood, chairman of Melksham Without Parish Council, which negotiated the village hall with Bellway.

He said: "We are absolutely delighted. All we need now is for the right number of houses to be built so that the money can be released. We are all systems go now."

Planners have imposed some conditions on the hall's use, including imposing opening hours of 8am to 10pm except when it being used as a polling station.
