Locals have criticised motorists who parked dangerously on verges and bends on Corsham Road this weekend.

Some have called for Wiltshire Police to investigate after the incident.

Other images on social media also show large queues for Whitehall Garden Centre.

Nick Bolter, who took the photos attached, wrote on Facebook: “Great parking for Whitehall on a county road. Absolute joke. Lockdown. What lockdown.”

People were forced to walk on the road where the pavement was blocked at some points.

One person also commented: “These cars are parked dangerously for a long stretch on country roads making horse riding, cycling, walking (exercises permitted through lockdown) extremely unsafe!

“Police can you advise if anyone is addressing the road issues ?”

A spokesman from Wiltshire Police said: "Our officers attended Whitehall Garden Centre over the weekend following concerns raised by members of the public about overcrowding and Covid compliance. The store manager was contacted to ensure measures are in place to limit the numbers of customers and ensure that social distancing restrictions are being adhered to.

"Ensuring that businesses comply with Covid restrictions is, in the first instance the responsibility of the local authority.

"Wiltshire council parking officers will be patrolling that area and enforcing any parking restrictions from now on."
