A stretch of path in the Wiltshire countryside will be bolstered with new trees thanks to the work of local volunteers.

Plant for Our Lives is a community tree and hedge planting group that is based in the Vale of Pewsey.

This weekend, volunteers worked across the county to, in socially distanced household bubbles, worked to plant trees across stretches of land. In Conock, a team of 13 worked on a new area to plant hundreds of hazel and hawthorn trees across the edge of a track that leads to Redhorn Hill.

Not only will the path look far nicer for passing walkers, cyclists and horsriders, but it will also boost biodiversity in the area.

This week's planting was organised by local resident Caroline Smith.

She said: “We had a great team, with volunteers from Chirton, Wedhampton, Urchfont and as far away as Chippenham. There were eight of us in the morning and five in the afternoon, and we were thankful the landowner had mowed the grass for us as it made it much easier to plant. We made good progress and the soil got easier to dig as we moved along the track.” The Woodland Trust supplies the tree supplies for Plant for Our Lives.
