The A419 has been shut near Blunsdon after a crash. 

Wiltshire Police said officers were dealing with the crash, reportedly between a lorry and tractor, on the dual carriageway between Cricklade and the Blunsdon turning. 

"The southbound carriageway is closed and traffic is being taken off at Cricklade. Please be mindful of this when travelling," the force said. 

The Wiltshire Air Ambulance helicopter is at the scene. 

Update: 3.50pm: Highways England says the road has been shut in both directions.

Firefighters from Stratton and Drove Road fire stations were called to the crash. Occupants of the tractor and lorry were left in the care of South Western Ambulance Service paramedics. 

A picture shared to Twitter by Stratton firefighters showed a dog, which had been in the cab of the lorry involved in the crash, being looked after by the fire crews. 

There are queues of up to two miles on the approach to the scene, Highways England says. 

The following diversion is in place: 

From the Cricklade southbound exit slip take the 3rd exit at the Cricklade Roundabout signed Cricklade B4040. At the 1st roundabout take 1st exit signed Malmesbury B4040. At the 2nd roundabout take 1st exit onto the High Street signed Malmesbury B4040. At the 3rd roundabout take 1st exit signed Purton & West Swindon B4553. At the junction follow Cricklade Road left onto Packhorse Lane signed West Swindon B4553. Follow road round right onto The Pry signed West Swindon B4553. Follow the road round left signed West Swindon B4553. Follow Purton Road round left signed West Swindon B4553. At the 4th roundabout take 1st exit signed Swindon B4553 (M4). At Sparcells roundabout take 1st exit Cirencester (A419). Continue straight onto A4311 signed (M4) Marlborough and (A419) South. At the traffic lights turn right signed (M4) Marlborough, (A419). Stay in  the right hand lane and at next set of traffic lights turn right signed (M4) Marlborough and A419 and rejoin A419 southbound carriageway. 

Police issue statement

Wiltshire Police have issued a statement about the crash. 

A spokesman for the force said officers were called to reports of a three vehicle collision involving a lorry, tractor and car on the A419 just before 3pm. 

"The tractor driver was taken to the Great Western Hospital with head injuries – not thought to be life threatening. The driver of the lorry was also taken to the GWH with minor injuries.

"The road was closed for three hours until cleared.

"No-one has been arrested at this stage and our enquiries continue.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision should call 101 and quote log number 155."
