A KEY road linking the Castle Mead estate to the West Ashton Road could close for up to two months and possibly longer.
Wiltshire Council has posted notices saying the road from the Radstock Co-op store at Huntingfield to the West Ashton Road will be closed from January 4.
The road is heavily used by locals on the Castle Mead estate and as a cut through from the A361 at Leap Gate to the West Ashton Road.
Its closure will lead to long detours for residents who use it.
Stewart Benford, of Castle Mead Residents Group, said: "I don't believe there have been any objections but it is going to inconvenience a lot of people."
Wiltshire Council intends to replace culverts along the stretch of road to improve rainwater drainage. Hundreds of new homes are planned for the area.
