GRANTS worth a total of £9,500 have been awarded to 13 of the 18 organisations that applied for financial support from Trowbridge Town Council.

The council's policy and resources committee decided to award grants to all but five of the organisations that applied for help.

The 18 applications received before September 30 had made requests totalling £19,568 from the council's 2020-21 budget with only £9,500 available to spend.

Grant cheques were issued following approval at the council’s meeting on Tuesday January 5.

Recipient organisations have been asked to provide a short acknowledgement for inclusion in the annual town meeting in April.

Splitz Support Service received £600, Group Five £900, Trowbridge Ladies Rugby £400, Trowbridge & District Youth Band £500, Trowbridge Street Pastors £500, Wiltshire Sight £750, Monday Wednesday Club £1,000, Families Out Loud £500, Friends of Biss Meadows Country Park £929.55, Wessex MS Therapy Centre £420.45, Help Counselling £1,000, Trowbridge Environmental Community £1,000 and Carers Support Wiltshire £1,000.

Westbourne Tennis Club, 60+ Social Afternoon, Trowbridge Wanderers Youth FC, Life Education Centre (Wiltshire) Ltd and Wiltshire Rural Music School will be encouraged to apply to Wiltshire Council's Trowbridge Area Board for financial support.

Cllr Edward Kirk suggested that the organisations whose financial needs were not met by Trowbridge should also apply for help from neighbouring parish councils.

"I feel that other parishes should be asked to contribute to some of the requests," he said.
