A FORMER Grenadier Guardsman has called on Trowbridge Town Council to provide the leadership to revive the Wiltshire Armed Forces and Veterans Celebration event.
Brian Mitchell, 81, of Pitman Avenue, says the annual event could be go ahead if the council provides "leadership" to organise it with support from ex-forces volunteers.
Speaking at Tuesday's policy and resources committee meeting, he said: "There are people out there who are prepared to volunteer if they see the leadership is there."
His call was backed by Cllr Geoff Whiffen, who urged the council to provide a member of staff to act as a secretariat for the event, which was last held in 2019.
The council's budget includes a £3,000 contribution towards a heritage event in 2021-22 which could incorporate elements of the WAFVC and also a contribution from Trowbridge Museum.
If this does not go ahead in 2021 the funds could be used to contribute towards a larger event in 2022, Cllr Antonio Piazza said.
