CHILDREN are to be temporarily banned from using the play area at the King George V playing fields in Melksham.

The play area will be closed for two months from January 18 to enable much-need improvements to take place.

Melksham Town Council hopes to open a new "exciting and much-improved" play area near the Splash Pad at the beginning of April.

The artist’s impression of the new area shows what the new play area might look like.

The council says: "As you can see there will be a lot of new apparatus but some favourites from the current play area will also be incorporated.

"Melksham Town Council has liaised carefully with the manufacturers and installation team to ensure that Covid-19 safety guidelines will be followed throughout the build process.

"The rest of the King George V Park will remain open to be enjoyed, as long as government guidelines are followed."
