A Wiltshire nursing home with space for more than 50 residents has been sold off a £5.4 million asking price.

Mavern House Nursing Home in Shaw was sold to Welford Healthcare.

Brother and sister team, Jill James and John Pearson, previously owned the Corsham Road home for more than 13 years.

The pair decided to sell to retire from the care sector and pursue alternative business ventures.

Welford Healthcare owns several care homes. Spokesman Peter Madden said: “We are delighted to welcome Mavern into the group, and we look forward to learning from the special culture of this home.”

This popular nursing home is situated in a prime location between Corsham and Melksham, and enjoys a pleasant setting within its own grounds away from the main road and the open countryside.

The home sits in a property of intriguing characterful period elements and purpose-built extensions.

The dressed stone period building to the front was the original village vicarage and offers an attractive elevation to guests.

The home was sold through specialist property advisers Christie & Co.

Simon Harvey, senior director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, said: “We are delighted to have assisted Jill and John in moving on to other projects, and wish Pete and the team well with their latest acquisition.

“This transaction is yet another example of the appetite that exists in the market for high-quality care homes across the South West.

"Despite the ongoing challenges, the sector remains robust, with many seeing it as a good long-term investment where its profile has been raised through the most difficult of periods.”

The sale was supported by Impact REIT, which funded the deal, alongside the solicitor for the seller, Hazel Phillips at Royds Withy King.

Tim Godfrey and Andy Hawkes from chartered accountants Bishop Fleming also assisted. The buyer's solicitors were Joe Soul and Jordan Glackin of law firm EMW.
