A YOUNG motorcyclist is tonight being treated in Southmead Hospital for serious injuries sustained in a crash near Rode earlier this afternoon.

The 18-year-old was airlifted by air ambulance to the hospital in Bristol just after 4pm.

He was injured in a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a car on the A361 south of Trowbridge.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 4pm today we were called to reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a car on the A361 south of Trowbridge.

“The motorcyclist, an 18-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was transferred by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

“The road will remain closed for some hours to allow for examination of the scene and recovery of the vehicles.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision should call us on 101 quoting log number 234 of today.”

Police closed the road in both directions and drivers are advised to avoid roads around the A361.

The road is closed from the Southwick and B3109 junctions south of Trowbridge.
