Almost every Wiltshire pupil has secured a place at one of their preferred secondary schools for the coming year.

Wiltshire has offered 92.5 per cent of children a place at their first-choice school this year with 99 per cent offered a place at one of their preferred schools. This is an increase of 0.5 per cent on last year’s figure.

Parents will be able to find out today (March 1) about their child’s secondary school placement. Whereas those who applied by post will have their results sent out to them today.

Cabinet member children, education and skills, Laura Mayes said: “I’m really pleased the numbers of young people who are being offered their preferences have risen again.

“This is such an important time for all our young people and to know they will be going to one of their preferred schools will be a great help to them and their families.

“These high figures are in no small part due to the careful planning of our officers who ensure there are sufficient places both for now and the future.”

The results of online applications are available at the Wiltshire Council website where parents will need their ID and password to see the decisions.

This year there were 5,045 applications – a rise of 128 from 2020.

All applicants have until Monday, March 15 2021 to accept the offer they receive.

A council spokesman said: “The right to an independent appeal is open to anyone who has not received an offer at their preferred school.”

Details of how to appeal are available here.
