Marlborough’s new cinema in the centre of town is beginning to take shape.

Builders have been on site throughout lockdown, and those behind the Parade Cinema remain optimistic that it will be open later this year.

External work has included repairs and replacement of the roof, brick and stonework, the restoration of stained-glass windows, and the removal of a chimney from the Manse.

The small extension to the side of the Chapel is being built to house a new corridor that will lead to the auditorium.

By connecting the two buildings, for the first time, it is clear how the auditorium, foyer, and gallery will link with the bar, ticket and café areas, and the upstairs gallery and dining area.

David Williams has also just been appointed cinema manager.

Robert Hiscox, Chairman of Image Cinema, said: “David has an extensive and successful experience of developing and running cinemas so we feel very lucky to have him running the Parade.”

David Williams has over 20 years’ experience, and his career has seen him running cinemas from single-screen arthouse cinemas to ten screen multiplexes.

“My career in cinema started in 2001, in a small Welsh town. I quickly fell in love with everything that cinema had to offer, and it did not take long for me to realise that I wanted to make my career in cinema,” said David.

“Twenty years later, I find myself taking on quite possibly the most exciting project of my career, The Parade Cinema.

“My overall vision for the cinema is one of inclusivity. I want the cinema to be enjoyed by everyone, whether you are looking for afternoon tea and a film, a Saturday night out with good food and a good film or a way to keep the children entertained for a few hours.

“The film programme will be as varied as we can make it, we will showcase the latest blockbusters alongside the very best in arthouse, foreign language and live events from the National Theatre and others.

“Of course, we will have something for the little ones too, with regular kids’ films on the weekend and during school holidays.

“I’m very proud to be a part of building something that will be a part of the Marlborough and wider area community for many years to come.”
