TOWN councillors in Bradford on Avon are debating whether to support two projects creating new walking routes for people to enjoy.

The first is the Slow Ways, an‌ ‌ambitious‌ initiative‌ to create ‌a‌ ‌comprehensive‌ ‌network‌ ‌of walking‌ ‌routes‌ ‌that‌ ‌connect‌ ‌all‌ ‌of‌Britain’s‌ ‌cities‌ ‌and‌ ‌towns‌ ‌as‌ ‌well‌as‌ ‌thousands‌ ‌of‌ ‌villages. ‌

Some 700 volunteers completed a first draft mapping of the Slow Ways network during the spring 2020 lockdown.

Organisers are now looking for 10,000 volunteers to help walk, review, record and improve the Slow Ways routes.

The second project is the Kingfisher Trail, a new public art initiative based on two trails in the Cotswolds.

In the west, the Severn Trail will follow the tributaries of the River Severn and the Cotswold Way.

In the east, the Thames Trail will link stunning Cotswold villages and the waterways and tributaries of the River Thames.

Each trail will have 10 kingfisher sculptures, painted by local artists. The 21st kingfisher will move to a new location each fortnight.
