Firefighters from across Wiltshire and Dorset came together last night to contain a thatch fire in Stert, near Devizes.
Upwards of 50 firefighters worked to quell the flames in what was described as a "long and arduous" evening.
Much of the property has been saved - and the response has now been scaled down.
No-one was hurt, and the cottage owners lost no belongings in the fire.
