MORE than £1,200 has already been raised by a fundraising appeal to help the family of a Calne toddler who died in a tragic accident last Wednesday.

The appeal is already more than halfway towards its £2,000 target to raise funds for the three-year-old girl's family.

The tiny tot, named on the appeal website as Milliee-Ann, died at the scene of the accident in Campion Close in Calne last Wednesday afternoon.

She was in collision with a Hermes delivery van in the quiet cul-de-sac shortly after 12 pm.

The gofundme appeal has been launched by Tara, the cousin of Milliee-Ann’s mother.

The website appeal named the girl’s parents as Tanzin and Mike and her elder brother as Rico.

Tara said: “Milliee-Ann was a happy, cheeky, kind little girl who will be missed dearly.

“Anyone who can kindly donate please do as I know it will be greatly appreciated at such a difficult time.

“Any money raised goes to anything that Tanzin, Mike and Rico want to do in memory of Milliee-Ann.”

The van driver involved in the collision stayed at the scene and is helping police with their inquiries.

The toddler’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Cllr Robert Meyrick, the mayor of Calne, said the town was reeling from the number of tragedies involving young people from which it has suffered over the past two years

He said: “We’ve now had six tragedies in two years and, after speaking to the family involved, they are just numb. It all happened in a split second.

“It is another tragedy that Calne has to bear and to come to terms with. We are asking the community to come together to support them.”

Insp James Brain, from the Chippenham Area Community Policing Team, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the girl’s family at this incredibly difficult time.

“I ask that their privacy is respected and we will also be working with the local community who would have no doubt been impacted by this.

“We understand that people will want to pay their respects and come together at this difficult time, but can we please ensure this is done safely and to keep in mind the current Government guidelines regarding Covid restrictions and maintain social distancing.

“Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is at a very early stage and we won’t be providing any further update at the moment.”
