THE Trowbridge Weavers Market is set to make a welcome comeback in May.

The market was successfully held four times in 2019 and postponed last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Organisers are planning a relaunch this year as the lockdown eases, with markets being planned from May 8 through to Christmas on the second Saturday of every month.

The market gives an opportunity for independent local traders to showcase their creativity and to bring the community together, and to offer the public a wide range of unique hand-made products, food and drink.

There will also be live entertainment on offer from local musicians.

Organiser Cllr Stewart Palmen said: “With the first markets being such a great success we are really looking forward to our exciting relaunch this May."

"We have again received some help with funding from both Wiltshire Council and from Trowbridge Town Council which will help make this bigger and more vibrant than the first markets.

“There are a couple of major changes this year one being that Market Street will not be closed, the reason for this is that the cost and effort necessary to close Market Street nearly bankrupted the organisers group on the initial markets. Without this burden running the market is a lot easier and more fiscally viable.

"The second change is that in order to be able to have Covid safe indoor market we are using two indoor venues, the Town Hall as last time, and the other at Emmanuel’s Yard. This helps us to spread the stalls out and use one-way systems.

"With these changes we can run a our first Covid-safe market on May 8 this year.”

Mr Palmen is welcoming applications from independent traders to take stalls. For more details and to apply, go to www.trowbridgeweaversmarket.co.uk.
