TROWBRIDGE pensioner Audrey Griffiths has launched a biscuit appeal for the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Audrey, 84, wanted to thank RUH staff who have been treating her for an illness.

She said: "They have been working hard through the Covid-19 pandemic.

"It is not just me. They have bent over backwards to treat people all over the place."

Mrs Griffiths, of Longfield Drive, contacted her local Tesco Extra superstore in County Way to see if they would help.

The store’s community champion Maria Asquith said:

“Audrey wants to make a thank you gesture to the staff at RUH by donating loads of packets of biscuits for their staff room.“We are helping Audrey achieve her goal by accepting donations of packets of biscuits from the public.

"Anyone who buys a packet should take them to customer services and we will put them in a separate box for her appeal.

"When we have collected the packets, I plan to drive with her to deliver them to the hospital.”

Mrs Griffiths is very community minded - she and her husband John Griffiths, who died in 2010, were both former Trowbridge Scout leaders.

Daredevil Audrey, now a great-great-grandmother, celebrated her 68th birthday in 2005 by abseiling down a 90ft cliff at Wookey Hole in Somerset to help Children's Hospice South West raise £15 million for a new care home.

Mrs Griffiths is currently receiving care from the RUH, and they looked after her husband until he died.
