FORMER Spandau Ballet bass guitarist and Eastenders actor Martin Kemp is coming to Trowbridge - and the gig is already sold out.

He will be bringing his Back To The 80s Party to Trowbridge Civic Centre on Friday, November 12, from 7.30pm.

He is one of the first top names to announce a gig at the town’s Civic Centre post-lockdown. Currently, the centre is hosting mainly NHS blood donor sessions.

Promoter Leander Morales, of GM3 Music Ltd in Westbury, said: “The 80s night has already sold out. The Civic Centre has a 700 capacity and we've sold 680 tickets. The rest are being held back for special guests.

"I think the demand shows that people just can't wait to get out and dance again. The take-up in Covid vaccinations means that we can do all this."

Tickets went within hours after going on sale from 6pm on Friday (April 16). Mr Morales has already booked Martin Kemp for a return gig on April 29 next year.

He is keen to bring live music and DJ sets back to Trowbridge and is working with Civic Centre bosses to increase the number of events there.

He said: "I think that Trowbridge has got some really enthusiastic people and we are hoping to build a relationship with the Civic Centre."

Mr Kemp, 59, who now works as an actor, musician, producer and DJ, will be taking to the decks, to present one of the biggest 80s hits nights to land in Wiltshire this year.

Mr Morales added: “If you’ve been to Martin Kemp’s Back To The 80s party, you’ll know why this show is so popular.”

Spandau Ballet sold millions of records worldwide and Martin Kemp is a huge TV personality.

After leaving Spandau Ballet, he starred as Steve Owen in Eastenders and appeared in the film The Krays.

He also appeared in London’s West End in the hit musical Chicago whilst still finding time to appear in Channel 4’s Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls, and more recently on Celebrity Gogglebox with his son Roman Kemp.

The night also features special guest 80s/90s revival DJ Riky G from Wiltshire, who has supported Mr Kemp on a number of occasions, bringing his own collection of 80s club and pop classics to the party.

He is a resident DJ on BBC Radio Wiltshire, Trowbridge Civic Centre and many other venues across the UK.

Riky’s 80s/90s revival DJ set has been a huge hit over the past year, picking up thousands of viewers through weekly live streams.

Also included in the event are Somerset’s Hit Or Miss DJs, the self-proclaimed ultimate party starters who have been playing with Mr Kemp over the past year, warming up the sold-out crowds.

Hit Or Miss have also supported modern-day rock icon Frank Turner while dressed up as Pokemon and played a Star Wars Party with Goldie Lookin’ Chain.

They have worked on gigs alongside Norman Cook who DJs as 'Fatboy Slim', Happy Mondays, S Club, 5ive, Scouting For Girls, East 17, Howard Donald of Take That, Aston Merrygold from JLS and Martin Kemp.
