FORMER leader of West Wiltshire District Council Sarah Content has resigned from her seat on Wiltshire County Council because of the decision to proceed with a super council.
Cllr Content (Lib Dem), who represented the Holt and Paxcroft ward, wrote a resignation letter to county council chief executive Dr Keith Robinson stating she did not believe a unitary authority for Wiltshire would result in savings or improved efficiency.
West Wiltshire Lib Dem leader Trevor Carbin said he sympathised with her decision and paid tribute to her as a forthright and dynamic' councillor.
Cllr John Thomson, deputy county council leader, said he wished her good luck.
He said: "Sarah Content was against the plans for unitary right from the start, but never the less, the county council voted in favour of proceeding with the bid.
"We were delighted when the secretary of state accepted our submission and look forward to making the new authority a success for the people of Wiltshire."
