Sharon Edney

Manager of Wellhead Lane Care Home in Westbury

Wiltshire Times: Sharon Edney

Sharon said: “I am a proprietor, director, registered manager and a ‘carer’. I was surprised to be nominated for something that I believe should be a given as I feel all senior managers in the care profession should be ‘carers’ at heart, but, it put a lovely smile on my face.”

She was nominated by Pauline McSheffrey, who said: “Sharon has supported her staff, the residents and their parents through this pandemic. She has always put others’ needs first. She has made sure that the well-being of her staff team and the residents has been at the forefront of her focus. She has made sure that the staff team received care packages, which included mini pamper packs for staff, as she is aware of how uncomfortable wearing PPE for a prolonged period of time is. Sharon has also given staff extra annual leave as a goodwill gesture for all the hard work and support that they have given to the residents and each other. The staff team have been able to adapt and manage new expectations as she has shown candour through this awful time. She has remained strong, positive, focussed and resilient at all times.”

Regan Homer

The Firs Home Care

She was nominated by Sonia Ryder, who said: “Regan is at all times caring, observant, careful. She is aware of medical, mental and physical needs of myself. She goes the extra mile and does a lot of little things to make my life so much easier and more comfortable. Thanks to Regan’s initiative she alone noticed my arm becoming gangrenous and septic and took photographs of the arm to which my surgery requested be sent to them, because of Regan action the surgery rushed into action to put the situation right. I owe her a lot. Regan is also very patient with me and relaxed. I am very thankful to have Regan as my carer and friend. She’s made a massive difference to my life, she’s saved me and bring me great hope for a happy future.”

Emily Webb

Voyage Care

Emily said: “I feel very grateful for being nominated for this special award. The past year has been incredibly challenging for not only myself but for the people we support and my team also. I am privileged to be surrounded by inspirational colleagues and work for such a supportive company, Voyage care.”

She was nominated by Carol Glenister, who said: “Emily has worked throughout the pandemic with my daughter above and beyond her duty. My daughter lives in Supportive living ,with another young lady, in Trowbridge, both who have complex needs and require care 24/7. Emily who is the team leader, ensures the safety and running of the home. She sets up care when our daughter is admitted to hospital, to keep the continuity, as our daughter has no communication skills. Someone from the home stays with her at all times. Our daughter has had COVID and we honestly thought she would not make it, because of previous hospital admissions With pneumonia..Emily bent over backwards, getting extra care, and coming back in herself (out of her normal hours) to keep our daughter at home and not admitted to hospital. She also told us to ring her day or night, 7 days a week.

“We believe our daughter has recovered after 6weeks of exceptional care. Emily has also arranged for her to receive her Covid injection. We could not have got through this without her. She is our living angel.”
