HEROICS by police officers across the county were recognised at a Wiltshire Police awards ceremony held online.

Dozens of officers and staff received special mention for their efforts over the past 18 months or long service to the force.

Chief Constable Kier Pritchard said: “All those honoured at the awards have in one form or another demonstrated the values and standards that underpin Wiltshire Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. I am really proud of these brave and public-spirited individuals, they are a credit to the force and to the communities they serve.”

PC Lauren Eddy received a Commendation after she saved the life of a woman shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day, 2020.

Together with a colleague, she noticed a woman on the wrong side of a Swindon footbridge.

PC Eddy spoke to the woman while the second officer closed the road. Alongside a member of the public, she held on to the woman as she built up a rapport. The woman was persuaded to get to safety.

Her commendation reads: “PC Eddy showed bravery and exceptional professionalism in saving the life of an extremely vulnerable member of our community.”

Another officer, PC Mark McIntyre, performed similar heroics with a man on a bridge over the M4 on September 8, 2019.

“Although the man was becoming increasingly distressed, PC McIntyre persevered with the utmost professionalism,” his Chief Constable’s Certificate of Excellence commendation reads.

“His calm and patient approach led to the man asking for PC McIntyre’s hand so he could be pulled to safety.”

Former Adver news editor Katie Bond, who now works as a press officer for Wiltshire Police, received a Chief Constable’s Certificate of Excellence for a campaign in 2019 raising awareness of domestic abuse and the Clare’s Law scheme that allows people to check whether their partner or prospective partner has a history of domestic violence.

Police and crime commissioner Angus Macpherson said: “After what has been an arduous year, in which many officers, staff and volunteers have continued to go above and beyond, I’m pleased that we were able to take some time tonight and recognise those who represent the very best of Wiltshire Police.

“It’s really quite humbling to celebrate the dedication and hard work of the award recipients - I am full of admiration for these teams and individuals who represent the very best of our community and of Wiltshire Police.”
