AN APPLICATION has been submitted to build 61 houses in Wilton.

The plans, put forward by Bellway Homes and E V Naish Ltd, are for a site on Crow Lane, as well as West Street and North Street.

A mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses are proposed, including 4 one-bedroom apartments, 15 two-bedroom apartments, 4 one-bedroom houses, 14 two-beds, 20 three-beds, and 4 four-beds.

Plans also include two commercial units, one retail unit and 111 parking spaces.

The planning statement says the site has a current use of industrial manufacturing, but that the existing buildings are "no longer suitable for this use and require substantial investment in order to sustain ongoing operation, even in the short term".

'An environment people will be proud to call home'

The Design and Heritage statement says the plans will create "a living environment that people will be proud to call home", adding: "The design will ensure that there are positive communal spaces and a design that integrates into the existing fabric of the site and the wider context."

It also says that the design will be "respectful of the existing condition, taking account of the environment in which it sits and will celebrate the qualities of area in its design".

'Well suited to development'

The planning statement says the site is "well suited to a residential development".

It says: "Wilton provides many local services including shops, public houses, churches, a recreation ground, nurseries, and schools.

"There are also excellent links to the city of Salisbury which is located approximately 5km from the site, including frequent buses and a park and ride service.

"The principle of this development was approved by way of the outline consent."

Also approved by way of the outline application are two primary vehicle and pedestrian access points.

The site is divided into two land parcels, one to the north and one to the south of the watercourse which runs through the site from the north west to the south east.

Each property will benefit from secure cycle storage, either located within a garage or within a garden shed within the plot.

Apartments will be served by communal cycle storage facilities.

A Sheffield stand is proposed for the commercial and retail units.

Wilton councillor Pauline Church has said the site is overdeveloped, so the layout scale, appearance and landscaping set out in this application is "vitally important".

Cllr Church added: "Needless to say, I will be scrutinising this application."
