POLICE arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of attempted murder following an attack on Thames Avenue.

Another man in his 20s is fighting for his life in John Radcliffe Hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in the assault yesterday morning.

Police were called to the scene around 9.15am and closed the busy road while they investigated.

Officers arrested the suspect this morning and took him to Gablecross Police Station where he remains in custody.

The victim was said to have received a blow to his head.

Detective Inspector Joe Saunders said: “We know this incident would have caused concern in the local community yesterday but we’d like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident.

“While enquiries are still at an early stage, we believe those involved were known to each other and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.

“Our enquiries will continue and there will be a police presence in this area throughout the day, so please don’t be alarmed by this.

“Anyone who saw or heard the incident or has any information that could assist officers with their investigations is urged to contact us.”
