THE online booking system in place at Wiltshire’s recycling centres is being axed.

Since the start of the pandemic, Household Recycling Centres (HSCs) have used an online booking system to ensure the safety of residents.

However, this will come to a close as early as July 19 – if social distancing restrictions are lifted by the government – and the council will stop taking bookings on Monday, July 12.

This means people will be able to visit the county’s tips as and when they need the service.

Cabinet member for waste, Dr Mark McClelland said the local authority has listened to residents’ concerns and frustrations over the system.

“If the government decides not to end all restrictions on this date, the dates for returning HRCs to non-booked visits will also change, and we will update with more information on this as soon as we are able to provide confirmation,” he said. “It’s possible that the updated public health guidance may still require some restrictions to HRC operations to keep everyone safe, and we will confirm this closer to the time.”
