Fire crews were called to Bowerhill late last night (June 28) after a car crashed into a building.

At 10.49pm, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service received reports of the incident at Mallory Place in Bowerhill, near Melksham.

No people were trapped in the vehicle, but the fire service was required "due to the resulting unsafe conditions."

Following inspection by crew, a building control officer was requested via the local authority due to structural damage to the property.

“At around 10.40pm last night (28/06) we received a call about a car colliding with a property in Mallory Place, Melksham.

“There was a small disorder when members of the public tried to detain both the driver and passenger until officers arrived at the scene.

“A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, criminal damage and affray, and a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and actual bodily harm. They are both currently in custody at Melksham Police Station.

“Both the fire service and the local authority attended to assess the structural damage to the property and once it was deemed safe the car was recovered.

“Our enquiries are ongoing.”

Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Cabinet Member for Streetscene said, “Our Duty Engineer was contacted at 11.40pm last night and a surveyor attended the scene to inspect the damage to the property.

Damage had been sustained to the righthand side of the property, including the window frame. No shoring up was necessary, but our surveyor recommended that temporary works to weatherproof the impacted area be undertaken as soon as possible.”
