A SPECIALLY commissioned cake depicting players over the past 100 years helped Holt Bowls Club to celebrate its centenary on Monday

The cake was made by Hilary Henley, of Henley’s Cake Company in Trowbridge, and the club arranged a centenary match against a team from Bowls England, which they won 123-111.

Club chairman Chris Moore said: “Thanks to everyone involved for making our centenary celebrations the best. Thankfully the weather stayed dry and the day was enjoyed by all in attendance.

“At the start of the season we weren’t really sure if we would still be running as a club, at this point, and it’s thanks to our dedicated members and supporters for giving their time to help keep our club alive.

“What the last 18 months has shown us, is that we can never take anything for granted, although it has shown us that with hard work and dedication anything is possible when we all support each other.

“In the weeks leading up to the day, all of our members dedicated so much of their time to prepare the club, the green and to ensure the day went ahead and ran smoothly.”

The match was followed by a barbecue, raffle and speeches by Rod Summers, the club’s captain for the day, and Bowls England president Paul Robson.

The club also commissioned a new centenary logo, which was designed by Holt schoolboy Alexander Allsop.

Special awards were presented to Adie Mizen and Malcolm Clift for their work at the club.
