AROUND 3,400 ultra-marathon enthusiasts are to tackle one of the UK's most popular endurance events in Wiltshire this weekend.

The Dixons Carphone 'Race to the Stones', voted the UK’s Best Endurance Event for the past three years, takes place on Saturday and Sunday, July 10 and 11.

Run by Threshold Sports, the race is one of the first mass participation events taking place after the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions were eased.

Nick Tuppen, chief executive of Threshold Sports, said: “Following a virtual edition of the Dixons Carphone Race to the Stones last year, we’re so excited to welcome the Threshold Trail Series community back to Wiltshire to do the real thing again this summer.

"The team have worked tirelessly to ensure the race is Covid-safe, and we can’t wait to see people conquering the beautiful 100km route from Lewknor to the iconic Avebury stone circle once again."Along the way, runners will journey past iconic landmarks such as the Uffington White Horse, the oldest path in Britain, Barbury Castle, Wayland’s Smithy and of course, the Avebury stone circle."

Runners can choose to tackle the full route in one day or two with a base camp provided at the half-way point.

The spokesman added: "With participants battling a varied and exciting trail along rolling chalk landscapes, this promises to be a spectacular event."For more details, go to https://www.thresholdtrailseries.com/events/race-to-the-stones/
