WILTSHIRE Council will be asked to undertake a full modelling exercise for traffic management in Bradford on Avon after the town's social distancing scheme ends in mid-August.

Town councillors voted unanimously at Tuesday's full council meeting for the exercise, including a full analysis of the pedestrian safety, carbon footprint and air quality impact data collected over the past year.

Traffic management changed when the town's social distancing scheme came into force on August 19 last year to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Cllr Sarah Gibson, the mayor of Bradford on Avon, said: “I was pleased that we could agree unanimously as a town council on this key motion.

“We continue to seek advice from Wiltshire Council on the legal status of the temporary traffic order allowing the current social distancing traffic scheme and will update residents on next steps as soon as possible.”

The Liberal Democrat-controlled town council supports a combined consultation with Wiltshire Council in the autumn, taking into consideration the data already collected and the modelling outcomes.

As a matter of urgency, councillors also agreed to request Wiltshire Council investigate ways of ameliorating the through traffic blighting Bradford on Avon and other west Wiltshire settlements following the closure of the Cleveland Bridge in Bath for urgent repairs.

Cllr Gibson says they wish to engage in a "meaningful dialogue" with Bath and North East Somerset Council.

Wiltshire Council has complained to BANES about heavy vehicles using main roads through local towns.
